PLAN
ArtPORT LA’s sculpture program will include works from world-renown local, regional and international artists across multiple sites at Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro. The 18-acre 22nd Street Park will serve as the primary location.
The inaugural activation at 22nd Street Park will begin in 2025. ArtPORT LA’s campus will be developed at scale by 2028, to host LA28.
Artworks will include existing pieces from regional institutions, global collections and local galleries.
STEAM programming for K-12 students will provide hands-on opportunities to create 3D art using materials commonly found at the Port.
An immersive venue - “TheSHELL” - will offer digital experiences and showcase the intersection of art, ideas and technology.
TheSHELL will be covered with solar panels evoking ship sails and a wind turbine atop the mast, generating energy for the digital screens, exemplifying environmental technology.
Repurposed shipping containers will provide gallery, retail space, and administrative spaces.
A community garden will include colorful, native and edible plants and serve as a neighborhood gathering place with resources in case of emergency.
ArtPORT will be a cultural gateway for residents and visitors to the Port of Los Angeles.
