  • An iconic monument containing immersive community space, covered with solar panels evoking ship sails and a wind turbine atop the mast generating energy for the digital screens, exemplifying environmental technology.

  • Repurposed shipping containers converted into an environmental arts and education center.

  • Maker spaces using materials commonly found at the PORT, offering opportunities to fabricate large scale sculptures plus 3D arts education for K-12 students.

  • A community garden with colorful, native plants.

  • A neighborhood gathering place with resources in case of emergency.

  • A cultural gateway for residents and visitors to the Port of Los Angeles.

*Interior images of TheSHELL showcase Refik Anadol’s Bosphorus, a data sculpture inspired by high frequency radar data collections of Marmara Sea in 30 minute intervals over 30 days. The original poetic experience was exhibited on a 12x3 meters long LED media wall in Istanbul, Turkey from December 2018 – January 2019.

This venue will be available to rent for events including forums, weddings, birthdays, etc.


A community urban garden will be designed for the open space adjacent to 21st Street based on the Neighborhood Resource Garden (NRG) program and examples including Lubeck, Germany
